I read two books this week:
These two books have been around for a while. They were originally published in 2005 and 2006. Now they are coming out as a set. The first book, Dinner with a Perfect Stranger, is about a man who’s life is spinning out of control when he receives a dinner invitation from Jesus. He thinks it is a hoax, but attends the dinner anyway. In the second, his wife, who is having trouble dealing with his recent conversion, ends up spending a day of airplane travel with Jesus.
Most of the time, when people have conversations with Jesus, we see dramatic conversions (see the woman at the well and Zacchaeus), so the fact that both of these people are changed is no surprise. However, we also usually we them ducking and jogging, trying to avoid the issue more. As far as dramatized conversations, these fall short. As far as an excellent opportunity to discuss the difference between religion and relationship – these books more than do the job.
If you have people in your life who are asking questions about religion and God, Jesus and relationships, these books will be great at helping them and you further that conversation.
