Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death…When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Ps. 94:17, 19; 95:7b,8a.

How often does God talk to us, and we don’t hear? Maybe our focus is elsewhere, maybe we are too consumed with our issues. Yet, without God, we do dwell in the silence of death, and His consolation does bring joy to our souls.

God wants to console us. He wants to help us get His perspective. Today, instead of dwelling on issues and things that have us all wrapped up in ourselves, let’s listen for God’s voice, for His perspective, for His consolation. Some of life’s problems are too big to be handled any other way.

Then, we will understand the joy in the Psalmist’s heart when He said “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.” Ps. 96 1,2.
